Rome to host Ryder Cup for first time in 2022

Italy will host the Ryder Cup for the first time in 2022 at the Marco Simone course in Rome.
It will be the 44th edition of the biennial team tournament between Europe and the United States of America.
Europe has held the event outside of England on only five other occasions - Muirfield (1973) and Gleneagles (2014) in Scotland, Spain (1997), Republic of Ireland (2006) and Wales (2010).
Europe defend their title in Minnesota next year before France hosts in 2018.
Italy beat Austria, Germany and Spain in the bidding process.
European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley said: "History has shown time and again that the Ryder Cup is pure theatre with the players the stars.
"There is no question that the Eternal City of Rome will provide a wonderful backdrop for one of the great occasions in world golf.
"We have exciting plans for the development of The European Tour and our international schedule for the benefit of all our players, and Italy shares this ambition.
"Their commitment to the Italian Open will provide an inspiring benchmark."
The Marco Simone course, 17km from the centre of the Italian capital, will be reconstructed to meet the standards for the tournament.

Craig Overton: Ashar Zaidi wants apology for alleged slur

Craig OvertonPakistan-born ex-Sussex player Ashar Zaidi says Somerset's Craig Overton should apologise after allegedly swearing at him during a match.
Overton, who allegedly also told 34-year-old Zaidi to "get back to your own country", received a two-game ban.
Zaidi did not hear the alleged comments which were reported by non-striker Michael Vardy and umpire Alex Wharf.
Overton has denied the claims but Zaidi said: "For the sake of the game he should apologise to me."
Somerset have said the player, along with the county's officials, had written an apology to Sussex and it was accepted.
The 21-year-old, who has been part of England's one-day squad and came close to selection for the winter Test tour to South Africa, was found guilty of a level one offence for abusive language.
It was Overton's third offence of the season and took him to over nine penalty points, meaning an automatic two-game suspension was imposed.

Champions League draw: Arsenal face Barcelona

Arsenal

Champions League draw: Arsenal face Barcelona

Arsenal will face holders Barcelona in the Champions League last 16.
Chelsea have been drawn against Paris St-Germain for the third consecutive season, while Manchester City face Dynamo Kiev.
Roma versus Real Madrid and Juventus, last year's beaten finalists, against Bayern Munich are two of the standout matches in the draw.
First legs are scheduled to take place on 16-17 and 23-24 February. Return legs are on 8-9 and 15-16 March.
The winners of each group, including Chelsea and Manchester City, are at home in the second legs, while Arsenal will host their first leg.
Barcelona v Arsenal is a repeat of the 2006 final, which the Spanish champions won 2-1 thanks to two late goals in Paris.
PSG, who are 17 points clear at the top of the French league, knocked Chelsea out on away goals at this stage last season, while the Blues beat them on the same rule in the quarter-finals the previous year.
Dynamo Kiev beat Manchester City in the 2010-11 Europa League last 16, with striker Mario Balotelli sent off for the English side.
The first leg in Kiev will be played in a stadium without any supporters present, as Dynamo Kiev were punished following racist attacks on fans during a group game against Chelsea.
The draw for the quarter-finals will be held on 18 March with the semi-final line-up drawn on 15 April.

Johanna Konta says cut in funding could have checked progress

Jo Konta
British number one Johanna Konta says cuts to her Lawn Tennis Association funding put her career at risk.
She spoke out after Andy Murray said talking to the LTA about the future of British tennis was a waste of his time.
Konta has risen more than 100 places to 48th in the world rankings since the LTA reduced her funding last December.
"If anyone's livelihood, career or dreams are jeopardised, I don't think that is ever a healthy position to be in," she told BBC Sport.
Men's world number two Murray made his criticisms of the LTA after he inspired Great Britain to win the Davis Cup for the first time in 79 years with victory over Belgium last weekend.
Konta reached the last 16 of this year's US Open, but does not believe she was driven to that success by the cut in her funding.
She said: "The success that followed after that is because of the people I had around me.
"My coaches made a decision to stick by me and to continue our work and they sheltered me from a lot of the issues that were going on.
"I think if I hadn't had my support system, then nothing would have happened - none of the results would have come."

IPL: Pune and Rajkot to host Indian Premier League franchises

Mumbai Indians
The cities of Pune and Rajkot will host teams in cricket's Indian Premier League for the next two years.
New Rising Pune and Intex Rajkot replace the suspended Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, both of whom were found guilty in an illegal betting and match-fixing probe in July.
The Royals and Super Kings are expected to return to the IPL in 2018.
Many of the world's best players compete in the competition, which began in 2008 and runs from April to May.
Following their successful bids, the new two franchises will not take money from the central pool available; indeed Pune will pay £1.6m and Rajkot £1m to compete.
Their inclusion means the IPL remains an eight-team competition, with existing teams in Delhi, Mohali, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
The 2016 edition begins on 8 April.
The Royals and Super Kings were suspended in July by a panel appointed by India's Supreme Court.
Royals co-owner Raj Kundra and Gurunath Meiyappan of the Super Kings were also banned from all cricket-related activities for life.
Chennai have reached four finals, winning in 2010 and 2011. The Royals won the inaugural tournament in 2008.

Formula 1: Mercedes takes action against engineer

Mercedes
Mercedes are taking legal action against an engineer who allegedly took confidential information as he prepared to join Formula 1 rivals Ferrari.
Benjamin Hoyle, who works for engine manufacturers Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, is alleged to have searched and saved race data.
Hoyle was set to leave Mercedes at the end of 2015.
"The company has taken the appropriate legal steps to protect its intellectual property," said a team spokesperson.
According to Bloomberg, Mercedes wants the return of all documents and information, payment of its legal fees, and is seeking to block Hoyle from joining Ferrari or any other F1 rival until after the 2016 season.
The Mercedes team won the 2015 constructors' championship by 275 points from Ferrari.

Marc Leishman wins Nedbank Challenge by six shots in Sun City

Marc Leishman in final-round action at the Gary Player Country Club
Australian Marc Leishman captured his maiden European Tour title with a six-shot victory at the Nedbank Challenge in Sun City, South Africa.
One stroke ahead going into the final round, the world number 47 dropped a shot at the third but holed six birdies in a five-under 67 to win on 19 under.
Henrik Stenson retained second after four birdies and four bogeys in a 72.
Englishman Chris Wood was third after a 68 and defending champion Danny Willett was 11 behind Leishman in joint fourth.
It was Leishman's first title since his maiden PGA Tour victory at the Travelers Championship in 2012.
He shot the lowest round of the week with a 64 at The Open in July and led the Championship with six holes to play before losing in a three-man play-off won by American Zach Johnson.
Leishman's bogey at the third was his only one in the lowest round of the day, and he made just three in total over the 72 holes at the Gary Player Country Club this week.
"I knew it was going to be a really tough day, I knew I had to play well," he said. "I'm really pleased that I could play as well as I did and have a little bit of a buffer there at the end."

Premiership: Newcastle Falcons 3-38 Saracens

Saracens returned to the top of the Premiership table after securing a late bonus point in their win at Newcastle.
Charlie Hodgson converted Samuela Vunisa's try and added two penalties to give Sarries a 13-3 lead at half-time, with Tom Catterick replying.
Hodgson then kicked two penalties after the break either side of Nick Tompkins' score from close range.
Fly-half Hodgson added a breakaway try late on before Billy Vunipola's score in added time sealed a bonus point.
Saracens remained the only unbeaten team in Europe this season and recorded their 13th consecutive victory over Newcastle Falcons in all competitions.
But the north London side had to wait to be sure of victory as a kicking battle in the first half made for a scrappy game.
Newcastle, still without a league win this season, put pressure on Saracens' defence in the second half, but despite going through the phases they could not trouble the visitors' line.
It was from a Falcons attack that former England international Hodgson, who will retire at the end of this season, got the third try of the afternoon on 78 minutes after intercepting a loose pass and racing clear.
With the home side attempting to get on the scoreboard themselves in added time, a turnover and breakaway from Ben Ransom eventually allowed Vunipola to add Saracens' fourth score of the afternoon in the fourth minute of added time.
Newcastle: Tait; Agulla, Powell, Socino, Watson; Catterick, Young; Vickers, McGuigan, Welsh, Robinson, Green, Wilson, Welch (capt), Latu.
Replacements: Lawson, Rogers, Vea, Botha, Hogg, Takulua, Willis, Harris.
Saracens: Goode; Ellery, Tompkins, Taylor, Wyles; Hodgson, Spencer; Barrington, George (capt), Figallo, Itoje, Kruis, Wray, Fraser, Vunisa.
Replacements: Saunders, Vunipola, Du Plessis, Rhodes, Vunipola, De Kock, Streather, Ransom.

India v South Africa: Tourists battle to avoid defeat in Delhi Test

South Africa captain Hashim Amla defies the India bowlers
India require eight wickets on the final day to seal a 3-0 Test series win after South Africa closed on 72-2 in pursuit of a remote 481 in Delhi.
Ajinkya Rahane became the fifth Indian to score centuries in both innings of a Test match as they declared on 267-5.
In reply, captain Hashim Amla (23 not out) took 46 balls to score a run, as South Africa made 72 in as many overs.
A 300-plus target has been reached just once on Indian soil, when the home team struck 387-4 to defeat England in 2008.
India resumed 403 runs ahead on 190-4 but skipper Virat Kohli added only five runs to his overnight 83 before a low Kyle Abbott delivery trapped him leg before to end the only century partnership of the series at 154.
Rahane, the only centurion of the series, was not to be denied another hundred, however.
The 27-year-old slog-swept Imran Tahir over mid-wicket for his second six of the innings and flicked Dean Elgar for another to move into the 90s.
He joined Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar (three times), Rahul Dravid (twice) and Kohli as the only India batsman to reach three figures twice in the same Test match.
South Africa blocked resolutely after left-hander Elgar was caught at slip in the fifth over, with India spinner Ravi Jadeja conceding only 10 runs from his 23 overs.
The usually destructive AB de Villiers maintained the team tactic, using 33 balls to score his first run.
His partnership with the captain did not produce a single run in the first 10 overs, but both batsmen survived to retain their team's hopes of avoiding defeat.
A 3-0 series victory for India would put them second in the world rankings behind the South Africans, who will lose top spot if they lose their next Test series at home to England, which begins on 26 December.

Tiger Woods will explain marriage mistakes to his kids

Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods says he has a fantastic relationship with his former wife and will be the one to explain to his children the reasons for their divorce.
Woods and Elin Nordegren split in 2009 after he admitted to a number of affairs and the pair's six-year marriage came to an end in 2010.
The pair have two children, daughter Sam, eight, and son Charlie, six.
"I want it to come from me so that when they come of age, I'll just tell them the real story," said Woods.
"I've taken the initiative with the kids and told them up front, 'guys, the reason why we're not in the same house, why we don't live under the same roof is because daddy made some mistakes'.
"I just want them to understand before they get to internet age and they log on to something or have their friends tell them something."

Manu Tuilagi: Leicester Tigers centre agrees new contract

Manu Tuliagi
England centre Manu Tuilagi has agreed a new contract with Leicester Tigers, BBC Radio Leicester reports.
Tuilagi, who was set to be out of contract next summer, had been linked with moves to several clubs, including Saracens, Worcester and Toulouse.
He has been out with a groin injury for 13 months, ruling him out of the World Cup, but is now close to a return.
The 24-year-old has won 25 caps for England, having made his debut against Wales in August 2011.
Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill had previously said he believed rivals were offering "huge amounts of money" to lure the Samoa-born back away from the club.
Worcester had been reported to have offered him £1.6m over three years, although those rumours were subsequently denied by Warriors director of rugby Dean Ryan.

Alex Lees: Yorkshire Vikings appoint new one-day captain

Alex Lees
Yorkshire batsman Alex Lees has been appointed as the county's captain for 50-over and Twenty20 cricket.
The 22-year-old will be the White Rose's youngest skipper since limited-overs games were introduced in 1963.
Lees led the side for the last few games of last season after Championship skipper Andrew Gale stood down.
"After considering a number of candidates, we feel Alex is the right fit for us as captain," coach Jason Gillespie told the county's website.
"He learnt a lot on the job last season and we think he can develop as a leader further. We are delighted to afford him this opportunity and believe that he will do a fantastic job for our club."

David Lloyd wants change at 'poor' LTA after Andy Murray criticism

Great Britain Davis Cup squad visits 10 Downing Street
British tennis is "a mess" and the Lawn Tennis Association must make changes, says former player David Lloyd.
He added that "the buck must stop" with LTA chief executive Michael Downey, who he says has done "a poor job".
Following Great Britain's Davis Cup victory, Andy Murray said that speaking to the LTA about the future of British tennis is a waste of his time.
"The LTA do not run the game very well. They haven't for many, many, many years," Lloyd told BBC World Service.
"They have poor management, poor systems."
The former Davis Cup captain and successful businessman said the LTA had invested millions "but not in the right places".
LTA boss Downey said in a statement on Tuesday: "We value the opinions of all of our players on how we grow the game in Britain and our door is always open to Andy, Dan [Evans], Dom [Inglot], James [Ward], Jamie [Murray] and Kyle [Edmund] to hear their views and work collaboratively with them and all of our partners."

Eddie Jones: Visa wait prevents England coach taking office

Eddie Jones
Eddie Jones has been delayed in taking up office as England head coach because he is waiting for a work visa.
Jones, appointed as the replacement for Stuart Lancaster on 20 November, was scheduled to begin work on Tuesday.
The Australian has been able to start carrying out his duties, but is having to do so from Tokyo because his visa application is still being processed.
Rugby Football Union officials hope that Jones' paperwork will be approved before the end of the week.
Jones, who coached Japan at the recent World Cup, was able to attend a press conference at Twickenham on the day of his appointment because he had a visitor's permit to enter the UK.
The 55-year-old then travelled to Los Angeles to carry out work for World Rugby, the game's global governing body, at a conference for tier two nations, before returning home to Japan, where he has been waiting to be granted a visa.
To take up the England job, he left his role as head coach of South African franchise the Stormers - who he only joined in September.
Before that, Jones led Japan to a shock victory over South Africa at this year's World Cup, having guided Australia to the 2003 final before helping South Africa win the 2007 tournament by working as their technical director.

Bath coach Mike Ford unsurprised by Neal Hatley England job links

Neal Hatley and Mike Ford
Bath rugby head coach Mike Ford says he is unsurprised the club's forwards coach Neal Hatley is being linked to a role with England.
New England boss Eddie Jones is in the process of recruiting his backroom staff, with Hatley linked to a role as scrum coach.
"Our scrum is one of the best in Europe," Ford told BBC Points West.
"So no, it does not surprise me he is being linked with an international position."
Under Hatley's guidance, Bath's scrum has become one of the most feared in the Premiership, with the club also reaching the domestic final last season.

"I think the proof is in the pudding and he has been outstanding," added Ford.
"We all know how much work he does on scrum analysis and he finds ways of making them a better scrumager."
However, Ford warned that a role with England would not necessarily be a good career move for Hatley, who signed a new four-year contract at the club in September,
"I think I've got great experience of being an assistant coach with England and it's not necessarily the next step," he said.
"Neal is also in charge of our defence and is developing here and his ultimate ambition is to be head coach of an organisation somewhere down the line.
"So you have to be careful that if you go back to being a specialist coach for only 10 games a year, it's not necessarily the best step for you."
